What is Steam Cleaning
Steam Cleaning utilizes steam and detergents to break up dirt, grime, and residue that is built up on household surfaces and inside carpets and upholsteries. After the steam and cleaning solution has been applied and allowed enough time to break up the dirt and residue the left over particles are rinsed out and often vacuumed up with various attachments. Most machines come equipped with motorized brushes that move in a circular motion to brush the particles loose. Many come with attachments especially designed for hard to reach places and auto detailing. Some even have a built in vacuum system for simply vacuuming away the particles after they’ve been broken loose.
There are many different forms of detergents and cleaning solutions with unique chemical properties and applications. Many of these are simply for treating heavily soiled areas prior to the actual use of steam and other solutions. These solutions are used to break up the dirt over a period of time to make short work of the actual steam cleaning task. One such solution is designed specifically to dissolve grease and other sticky residues that trap dirt and dust and stop it from being effectively sucked up by a normal vacuum cleaner.
These cleaning solutions usually come in the form of sprays or foams and should be left in for at least ten to twenty minutes though each product’s container should list a more specific time frame. These cleaning solutions are often sprayed and brushed into carpet or other surfaces to agitate the soiled area and completely work in the active chemicals.
There are newer technologies in steam cleaning that actually use no soap whatsoever. Instead of making use of soaps and detergents this patented technology simply transforms the water into a high pH alkaline which is an effective cleaning solution all its own. The solution is heated to an excess of two hundred degrees and is then applied to the soiled surface using the usual brush attachment. The steamed alkaline water safely and effectively removes the dirt and grit from even the filthiest surfaces without the aid of any other chemical solutions. This modified hot water breaks up grease as well. Once the job is done and the water that is left behind cools the pH level will begin to normalize. In just a couple of hours the carpet or surface will be completely cleaned with no left over soapy residue.
The final step of carpet steam cleaning is a vital one. Once the carpet has been cleaned it is important to vacuum the carpet with a normal vacuum cleaner to remove any excess moisture left behind by the steam cleaner. Over saturation can cause the carpet to turn a dingy brown color. Once all the excess moisture is removed your carpet is fresh and clean again!
